The year 2025 saw a 7% decrease in total recalls compared to 2024 (5,757), but severity remained high with 97% classified as Class I - the most serious category indicating potential for serious health consequences.

Medical devices accounted for 53% of all recalls in 2025, with 2,826 individual recall events. Every single medical device recall was classified as Class I.

  2. B Braun Medical - 117 recalls
  3. Philips (combined) - 276 recalls across divisions
  4. Boston Scientific - 85 recalls
  5. GET TESTED INTERNATIONAL AB - 92 recalls

Philips continues to face recall challenges across multiple divisions including Philips North America (96), Philips Ultrasound (91), and Philips Medical Systems Nederland (89). Most relate to software issues, imaging problems, and component defects.

Food Recalls: Contamination Remains Top Concern

Food recalls totaled 1,429 in 2025, with contamination being the primary driver.

Fresh & Ready Foods led food manufacturers with 90 recalls, primarily for potential bacterial contamination in ready-to-eat products.

Drug Recalls: Quality Control Issues

Pharmaceutical recalls numbered 694 in 2025, all classified as Class I. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals topped the list with 74 recalls, often related to manufacturing quality and potency concerns.

Consumer Products: Safety Defects

Consumer product recalls (420 total) showed more variation in severity, with 58% classified as Class I and the remainder as Class II. These often involve:
